LINKS 8 was about creating space for courageous conversations about student access and success. These conversations centered around core concepts that drive our subject fields and challenged to consider ways to keep that conceptual knowledge at the center of meaningful collaborations across disciplines, areas, and institutions. There were 57 participants in attendance from the various community college campuses in the Southern California area that were captivated about Threshold Concept and many wanted to learn more about captivating it into their curriculum.
The keynote speaker, Linda Adler-Kassner, spoke on “Threshold Concepts, Communities of Practice and Access”. Linda Adler-Kassner talked about how learning within and across two general education courses—one in writing and one history. She also talked about completion rates. Afterward the keynote, a panel consisting of Tom Fox from CSU Chico, Kim Costino from CSU San Bernardino and Linda Adler- Kassner from UC Santa Barbara presented their involvement in implementing cross-disciplinary pathways for increased student success, retention and completion.
